Sigma Psi (NDSU) History
The charter for Sigma Psi Chapter of Kappa Delta was granted on May 3, 1924 on the campus of North Dakota Agricultural College (now NDSU) in Fargo, ND. Kappa Delta became the first national sorority at NDAC. There were 19 installation initiates.

We have the unique privilege of reading personal recollections of a few of the first Sigma Psi initiates in a beautiful leather-bound book. Click here to read an account of our installation story.

In 1974, Sigma Psi celebrated it's 50th Anniversary. The guest speaker was Edna Sommerfeld, one of our first initiates. In her speech, she spoke about the installation and shared messages from other initiates in that first pledge class. Edna had an extensive career in education, specifically in home economics and extension. She served as a national officer for Kappa Delta. In 2022, composite pictures from 1971-present were converted to digital files. To view the composite pictures click here.

In preparation for the 100th Anniversary Celebration held in May of 2024, many photos were scanned so that they can be enjoyed digitally. Click here if you would like to view hundreds of the captured memories.
